How to Find the Windows 10 Spotlight Lock Screen Images

Spotted an eye-catching Spotlight image you want to save for later? Learn where to find the secret Windows Spotlight folder.

Windows 10 gives you a lot of options for lock screen customization. Among these customization options is Windows Spotlight.

If you have turned Windows Spotlight on, your PC's lock screen will cycle between random wallpapers throughout the day. While almost all spotlight images are nice to look at, some are truly breathtaking. This is why people are always in search of spotlight images to use as their desktop backgrounds.

If you find yourself in the same boat, you've come to the right place.

Let us see how you can store Windows Spotlight images before they disappear forever.

Where to Find Windows Spotlight Images?

To start with some bad news, Windows Spotlight images are stored inside a hidden folder. So, you won't be able to find them in File Explorer no matter how hard you try. Therefore, you must first enable hidden files and folders inside File Explorer.

In the File Explorer, select View in the top left corner. Then, clickOptions and select Change folder and search settings.

In the Folder Options box, hit View and enable Show hidden files, folders, and drives. Finally, click on Apply.

Now, that you have enabled hidden folders, navigate to This PC > Local Disk (C:) > Users > [YOUR USERNAME] > AppData > Local > Packages > Microsoft.Windows.ContentDeliveryManager_cw5n1h2txyewy > LocalState > Assets.

Unfortunately, this is where things get a little obscure as Windows doesn't store Spotlight images in a recognizable image format. So, you won't find any JPGs or PNGs in the folder.

To get around this problem, look for files that have sizes in MBs. High-resolution images usually result in large files, which is why you need to look for files that are larger than the rest. After locating them, press CTRL + A to select the files, Ctrl + C to copy them, then navigate to a folder of your choice and hit Ctrl + V to paste.

Afterward, rename each file by placing the.jpegfile extension at the end of the filename to give them a valid image format. Open all of these images one by one and choose which ones to keep and which ones to delete.

Windows Spotlight Images Change Frequently

If you see a Spotlight image that you want to keep, be quick because you never know when that image will disappear.

Finally, when you have found the image you were looking for, hide the files and folders again by retracing the steps listed above.
